it's just geometry
back in the 1980s, i was addicted to the TV series Fame. hardcore. i knew everything there was to know about the show and its cast, and i even went to see the "kids from fame" perform at ontario place (a FREE concert, no less!). anyway, it's that past addiction that springs to mind as i post tonight, because the photos i'm including remind me of one of the songs performed on the show. it was called "geometry," and i just looked up the fact that it appeared in the episode where miss sherwood becomes vice principal of the school and leroy competes on a game show.
anyway, geometry is a fitting theme for the images that follow. they're tiny tastes of what i've been doing to my new place, decor-wise. glimpses into the colour explosion that's happening in what was once a vast, vacant land of off-white.
i haven't yet mastered the HTMLing enough to label each photo *on* the photo so, left to right, we have:
* a new lamp looms above Big Red
* funky carpeting rocks!
* it's Tiny's elbow!
* i love this stripe (it divides the living room from my "office") on my wall so much that i think i might ask it to marry me...of course, i'd first have to annul my nearly two-years-long union with What Jennifer Wrote
i would also be remiss if i didn't thank my excellent "crew" of painters: my gifted sister, young beatrix, who expertly handled all the edging in every single room (with such flair that someone asked whether it had been professionally done); my friend heather, who sacrificed a sunday and the soles of her slippers; and my ever-patient mom, without whose assistance (and car) none of this would have been possible. i am beyond grateful, and our collective work is absolutely gorgeous.
anyway...
for those of you reading along and thinking, "um, vic? all this decorating stuff is fascinating, truly, but where exactly is the `writer' part of this `yep, i'm a writer' blog?", i offer the following updates: i've been hired to write a big chunk of an SIP (special interest publication) for my former bosses at TVG; i'm working on a story about summer eye care; and the next screenplay is underway.
plus, i started this blog which, if nothing else, at least forces me to write something (however frivolous) daily. so there.

Happy new home! I love the colours!
PS I hate the scary clown.
good grief. i deleted my own comment above (i hate typos) and now it looks like some scandalous comment has been erased.
although, that does add a certain edge to the proceedings.
i wanted to say: the clown isn't really scary and actually grows on you with time. when i first met him, i was horrified for a millisecond...and then charmed. (aversion-therapy tip: create your own greeting and make cornelius say funny things.)
Hey Vic! Congrats on the blog. Nice VIEW! Holy cow, way cool. -- Brian
thanks, brian!
and congrats on your short running at sprockets and the world of comedy fest! well done! :-)
The clown IS scary. And geometry is hard. But the lines and colors in the details of your new home are sharp and lovely.
lou?
the clown is not scary.
he's just misunderstood.
love,
the girl who's terrified of leprechauns
Hey Vickie! Thanks for the long distance tour! I must say I'm flattered to hear that your marriage to What I Wrote has lasted this long. I mean, yeah, it'll suck if you get an annulment, but at least you guys had two good years. Besides, that stripe is hot. I'd grab its ass.
