no answers, just more questions
unfortunately, my test results were not helpful.
they were the medical equivalent of a shoulder shrug.
and i was wrong – what i thought was going on is not going on at all, and my doctor really has no idea what might be causing my assorted symptoms. which is not surprising, given her tiresome textbook-like approach to medicine.
this is not reassuring. i almost started to cry out of frustration right in her office, because i had so hoped for answers and, instead, have been sent back to square one, diagnostically.
the only thing these tests revealed was very low iron levels, which would account for the dizzy spells and fatigue but doesn’t have anything to do with much of anything else. (her textbook recommendation: try to eat more red meat or iron-rich foods, and start taking iron supplements twice a day. you know, nothing i couldn’t have looked up myself... in a textbook.)
so, i can’t get off the roller coaster yet.
and i’m being sent for an ultrasound at 8am tomorrow.
let the what-iffing continue...

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know the mystery is often the most difficult part of the whole process.
Still, there's hope that the iron supplements will help clear up the dizziness and fatigue, which would be progress, and perhaps the ultrasound will help point the way for the next steps.

i talked to my sister about the iron/dizziness, and she said she's not sure a sudden onset of dizziness is necessarily due to low iron (which, more likely, would have caused dizziness over an extended period of time).
since mine only started on thursday, and the blood work was actually done two days prior to the start of the dizzy spells, it's odd.
It is frustrating to go through the endless tests and forms trying to find a cause for pain or discomfort. I'm sorry that today was not the answer day. Hang in there. (((((((*vickie*)))))))

i'm actually hoping the ultrasound shows nothing at all. that's one test where "we couldn't find anything" would be a welcome result.
