highlights: real

unfortunately, mr. poo has still not improved. his appetite is very weak, and he looks like a furry, deflated balloon when he lies on his side.

mom went to the vet today to see about getting an anti-nausea prescription because we suspect he's not eating due to nausea, but the vet refused and said we need to wait to see how kyle does on the meds first (because she believes the nausea will go away once the meds start working).

in the meantime, he hasn't eaten more than a couple of tablespoons of food each day (sometimes not even that) for the past TWO WEEKS. and, just now, i read that nausea could be a side effect *of* the medication and that it should go away... over the next few MONTHS. his tiny stomach cannot wait that long.

mom is stressed out of her mind and has taken to being very curt and falsely chirpy when YB and i call or offer suggestions or stop in to visit mr. poo. she doesn't want to talk about kyle and doesn't want to hear what we have to say anymore.

we will have to talk about him, though, because i discovered tonight that both his vets (there are two who work at the clinic where he goes) had their licenses suspended for a month in 2009 for "professional misconduct"! they failed to properly care for a sick dog and the owners brought them before the provincial veterinary board.

so, i've spent the past four hours researching area vets. mr. poo is going to get a second opinion if trixie and i have to take him to a new vet ourselves (which, in all likelihood and based on mom's resistance, we will on saturday).

i am exhausted. i worry about kyle every waking hour. i just want him to EAT. i don't know how much longer he can survive on this few calories, and i fear that, if he doesn't get a good amount of food into him veryverysoon, i'm going to get a phone call that he collapsed or had a seizure... or worse.

update: mom called this morning to say that kyle did eat overnight. PHEW. not a lot: a tablespoon or so of kitten kibbles (which are high in calories, thank goodness!), some chicken flavour baby food and a little of his adult wet food. so, that's a relief. she reported that he's also a little peppier this morning, which is also good.
