the pips, the harlettes...and me!

today, i became a rock star.

and it was a blast!

a very talented friend of mine co-wrote (and is in the process of producing) a song for serena ryder. serena ryder! some of you may recall that i became an instant serena fan after attending her Live at the Rehearsal Hall taping a couple of months ago, and i liked her even more after interviewing her for a story, and discovering her to be a fun, funny, goofy and thoughtful young woman. [as an aside, i swear this whole blog isn’t about LATRH shows, but just look at their far-reaching impact on my life!]

anyway, my friend sent out the call yesterday that he was in need of a large group of people to come to the studio to help record the chorus. it wouldn’t pay but – if all goes as planned – we’d be able to hear our singing and clapping on the radio in a couple of months.


hello? SIGN ME UP! how often do any of us get this kind of unique opportunity?!

so, i enlisted heather to come along – the more the merrier! – and we went to the studio this afternoon. there, we – and the other seven folks who showed up to belt out the tune – lounged on the World’s Biggest L-Shaped Red Couch (seriously, it’s gigantic and makes Big Red look positively petite!) before launching into repeated rounds of chorus-and-claps. not surprisingly, that chorus and those claps are still reverberating in my brain four hours later, and will likely bounce around in my head for days and weeks to come.

once the single comes out, i’ll let you know. in the meantime, i await the inevitable That Thing You Do! moment where i’m absent-mindedly listening to the radio and the song suddenly comes on for the first time and i exclaim excitedly to no one in particular, “THAT’S ME! THAT’S THE SONG!”
